| Titan -
In Greek mythology, the Titans were a family of giants, the children of the gods Uranus and Gaia, who sought to rule the heavens but were overthrown and replaced by the family of Zeus (Jupiter). Many of Saturn's smaller moons are named after individual Titans, since these were the brothers and sisters of the god Saturn. It's perhaps appropriate that Saturn's largest moon was named simply "Titan," since the word means "one that is great in size, importance, or achievement." |
